Scouting Programs for
Boys and Girls
A variety of Girl Scout
and Boy Scout workshops are held throughout the
year.
We
offer canoeing, archery, hayrides, cross-country
skiing and snowshoeing and more. Scouts can enjoy the thrill
of a climb on our
60-foot climbing tower or work as a team at our low &
high ropes and obstacle courses.
Girl
Scout Badge Workshops 2008
General Information
Reservations
are limited, and are accepted on a first come basis.
To register, please call the Nature Center office at
517-546-0249 and request a reservation form.
Once your reservation is received, no refunds will be
issued. If the badge workshop is full, you will be
notified and your reservation money will be returned.
We ask that you plan to arrive at least 15 minutes
before the scheduled time of the workshop. We always
begin on time!
Price is $7 for each workshop
SPRING 2008 DATES
Brownies
April 12
9:30 - 12:30 pm. Earth & Sky
Come and be a scientist! Scouts will have fun
marking off an area to study soil and animals.
Scouts will also study evaporation and the warming
power of the sun during an interactive hike. In
addition, scouts will watch the sky and then create
a cloud picture using cotton balls. During a short
walk through Wild Wonders Wildlife Park, scouts will
learn about some of the inhabitants of the sky.
Requirements # 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 will be met during
this activity.
April 19
9:30 - 12:30 pm. Around the World
May 10 9:30 - 12:30 pm. Watching Wildlife
The girls will learn about animal architects that
build their own homes, how some animals can change
their looks, how earthworms are special, have an ant
adventure, and so some outdoor shipping by making a
shopping list for their animal after walking through
the Wild Wonders Wildlife Park. Requirements: # 1,
2, 4, 5, and 6 will be met during this activity.
Juniors
May 3
10:00 - 3:00 pm. Earth Connections
Scouts will have a wonderful time learning about the
earth by investigating their own little ecosystem,
learning about succession, and how to identify the
age of trees. After that, scouts will play
predator/prey games, create their own new species
during an adaptations activity, and take part in
tasting some edible plants. Requirements # 1, 2, 3,
4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 will be met during this activity.
Cadettes/Seniors
April 19
10:00 - 4:00 pm. High Adventure
(additional fee required)
May 10
10:00 - 4:00 pm. High Adventure
(additional fee required)
During this workshop, girls will take part in
our high ropes and low ropes adventure courses and
foster a strong sense of teamwork. Requirements # 1,
2, 3, 4, 6 (skill builders), #5 (technology), #1
(career exploration) will be met during this
activity.
FUN IN THE SUN!
Brownies and
Juniors will experience hands-on activities throughout
the day and will tour our Wild Wonders Wildlife Park
where they will be able to view many different animals
including hawks, eagles, foxes and deer. We will be completing
the requirements needed to complete the Try-Its and
Badges, but we do not supply the badges.
Cadets/Seniors will
experience the thrill of walking on obstacles 25 to 35 feet
off the ground while completing requirements towards
the
High Adventure Interest Badge. You may choose to
work on one of the other Interest Patches offered.
The Interest Patch will not be completed. A
service project will need to be completed on your own.
Adults choosing to
participate in the Adventure Course must also pay the
fee. Each person participating in the Courses must
also bring with them a signed waiver form. A
confirmation packet with the waivers will be sent to
each troop.
WHAT TO BRING FOR
BOTH BOY AND GIRL SCOUT PROGRAMS
A
daypack or school bag is nice to carry your sack lunch
and other
essential items, which are listed below.
Filled water bottle
Sunscreen and Chap stick
Sturdy shoes
Gym shoes or hiking boots are recommended in the
summer.
Winter may require hiking boots for warmth. No sandals
or dress shoes allowed.
Layered clothing
Start with a light layer - a tee shirt and jeans or
sweat pants. Add to this
base layer a long sleeve top, a sweater and a jacket.
Add additional layers for
winter and subtract layers for summer.
Hats, gloves, and wool socks
These essentials can easily be added to your day
pack for use if needed. A hat with a brim is nice to
have for sunny and hot days.
Rain gear
Ponchos or rain suits are needed in wet weather.

fill in all information and return it to the Nature
Center with full payment. You must register and come
as a troop and supply appropriate adult supervision.

Bear
Cub Scouts experience a close up view of our
hawks, owls, coyotes, eagles and foxes while earning
requirements towards the Sharing Your World with
Wildlife achievement.
Wolf
Cub Scouts complete requirements towards Your
Living World achievement. You can also choose to
experience a close up view of our hawks, owls,
coyotes, eagles and foxes while earning requirements
towards the Arrow Point Trail or work with us
to earn your Cub Scout World Conservation
award.
Webelos
Scouts can complete the Forester, Geologist or
Natural Activity badges. We can also work with
your group to earn the Cub Scout Conservation
Award.
Other
Programs
We also offer canoeing, archery, hayrides,
cross-country skiing and snow shoeing. Scouts can
participate in one of our Adventure Days and enjoy the
thrill of a climb on our climbing wall or work as a
team at our low ropes and obstacle courses.
2008
SPRING DATES
Webelos
April 12
10:00 - 1:00 pm. Geologist
Scouts will learn about how rocks and minerals
are made, how to tell them apart, and identify some
examples of rocks. Also, participants will talk
about fossils and how rocks are used in daily life.
Scouts will have fun with experiments about geysers.
Requirements # 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 will be met
during this activity.
Bear
Wolf
April 12
9:30 - 12:30 pm. Your Living World
During this badge workshop, scouts will play
pollution pictionary, create a clean up a mini oil
spill, run fast for a recycling relay, and
investigate how people are helping wildlife and what
they can do to help. Requirements # 7a, 7b, 7c, 7d,
and 7e will be met during this activity.
