Specialty Overnight Camps

At Camp Wonder, we have two different overnight camp options to select from. Both provide an amazing week-long overnight experience.

Entering Grades 7-9
August 4-9

“Nature Nuts” will love this camp! Get hands-on experiences alongside Howell Nature Center’s most experienced naturalists. The Naturalist in Training program combines the wonders of wildlife education and zoology with the fascinating aspects of ecology, all while learning the concepts of conservation. In addition to NIT training, campers will experience traditional favorites like archery, swimming, kayaking, high adventure and more!

Counselor in Training Camp

Entering Grades 9-12
August 11-23

Do you want to be an overnight camp counselor one day? This program is a great way to introduce you to everything that goes into being a camp counselor. For the first week, CITs will participate in classic camp activities and traditions, while spending time learning leadership skills needed to become an amazing counselor. During the second week of camp, CITs will be paired with a counselor and assigned a cabin to learn how to be a role model in an overnight camp setting.

The Spirit of Alexandria Foundation (SOA) was created in honor of the legacy of Alexandria Bennett, a little girl whose passion for nature and generosity were evident to everyone around her.  For a decade, the Foundation and the Howell Nature Center have partnered in spreading the joys of nature and providing summer camp experiences to thousands of youth.  Through Alexandria’s inspiration, the Spirit of Alexandria Foundation generously offers scholarships for children to attend the SOA Summer Day Camp and SOA Overnight and Excursion Camps at a highly subsidized rate.  This offering is not income based, but rather provides scholarships for all, addressing our shared mission and passion – providing every child an opportunity to experience summer camp and connect with nature. This form is available electronically online through the CampBrain Registration process.

Scholarships are on a first come basis.

Because we believe every child should have the opportunity to experience summer camp regardless of their inability to pay, the Howell Nature Center has a Tuition Assistance Program.  If your family is in need of financial assistance for your child(ren) to attend summer camp, please review the Campership Application guidelines and complete the Campership Application form.  You will receive notification of your request within three weeks of your application.  Please click here for guidelines/application.

Tuition Assistance based on availability.
